Ship "Index".
2). Armed & A.S.W. Trawlers.
Many of the photo's in this section can also be seen in other
places on my website.
This is due to some of these ships having undertaken more than one
role during WW11.
As there are so many different "Classes" of Trawlers, shown on this section of my website, I have chosen to
put everything into an "Alphabetical" by ships name list rather than trying to show the various classes that served in the
two World wars.
As so frequently happened, and appears to be happening all over again, the Government and Admiralty of the day
had completely forgotten
the destruction wreaked on our "Merchant Navy" by Germany's "U-Boats" during WW1.
They had allowed the R.N. to be decimated, as it is now, to just a shadow of its former self.
All the lessons, so painfully learnt during the 4 years of WW1 up to 1918, had to be re-learnt from 1939 at the start of WW11.
The only ships readily available to carry out the "unglamorous" jobs of Convoy A.S.W. and A.A. escort were these.
The men who were to crew them went on and wrote a page in R.N. history that should never be underestimated, or forgotten !.
